John M. Clark
Ass’t Vice President, Resource Protection Solutions
and Chief of Police BNSF Railway Company
John Clark is Assistant Vice President, Resource Protection Solutions Team and Chief of Police for The BNSF Railway Company. He is responsible for the security and protection of BNSF’s critical assets which include employees, facilities, equipment and customer’s lading. He also leads the Load and Ride Solutions Team and the Freight Claims group servicing customer requirements for proper loading of rail vehicles and provides claim solutions when damages or shortages occur.
Clark joined BNSF in 1970 as a special officer at Kansas City. He was promoted to system manager, security at St. Paul, MN in 1978, and to assistant chief of police in 1981. He was named director, police services at Overland Park, KS in 1987 and transferred to Ft. Worth in 1993. Clark was named general director, crime prevention services in 1995 and general director, police and protection solutions in 2001 and to his current position as AVP in 2003.
He represents railroad police as a fourteen year Executive Committee member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). Along with several committee appointments, he also serves on the board of directors of the IACP foundation. Also, Clark currently is a member of the national Homeland Security Committee and is chairman of the subcommittee on Critical Infrastructure.
